finally I submit my dissertation last thursday. It was a really tough process for 2-3 months working on that dissertation. Now I am waiting the results which will be ready at November.

Now, I will return to Bahrain to start my new life. seeking for a job and building my career.

before leaving Manchester after two days from now, I am just relaxing and trying to enjoy my time. It is hard to move directly from a stressful time to a relaxation moment. however, trying to do some coding make me enjoying this time.

If anyone know any company have available vacancies, please let me know to help me to minimize the unemployment time.

The time is the most precious thing on our live. In my opinion it is more important that money. If you have a lot of money but you do not have time to spend this money then you are like the one who do not have any cent. If you have a lot of money but you do not have a time to sit down with your family for five minutes then you are working for this money and it take your time.

We do not care about the time until we find ourself in a situation that needs time to be solved. I usualy forget about the time until I find myself with some days until reaching the deadlines.

I try more than 100 times to use a plan and stick on it. Usually after week or two I forget about the plan and start to do my favorite action: PROCRASTINATION! I hate that. But I still do it!

This fight come again and again when anybody start to talk about the best languages for the web applications. for example PHP lover will say PHP Rule! and ASP.Net fans will say chose it and forget about the others. Same for JAVA fans and so on,..

I am a PHP fan and I like it. It is free and you can code it using any text editor. you can upload it to the server and that’s it. You can also find a lot of PHP free hosting services. If you prefer to pay for a hosting company it will not cost you a lot to get a good PHP hosting company. But I should say that I find Asp.Net and Java interesting too.

But why when we like a programing language we ignore the rest? do we really think that the other programing languages are not good comparing with the one we use? or we are not really ready to change to new programing languages?

I am from the ones who don’t really want to change. I know how to program using PHP and MySql. But I don’t really try to use Ajax in my programs because I find it hard to redesign everything just for the sake of having Ajax enabled program. I ignore it for more than one year and then I relies that I should start thinking about it. You can’t hide your face one the ground and think that nobody can attack you. Because of that I plan to redesign my programing style to add some Ajax features here and there.

I used Asp.Net once when I had to do my project for one of the lectures. I try to encourage the lecturer to use the FREE PHP but he said: everyone want ASP.NET programs now and you should learn a bit about it. It wasn’t really ba. I just have to learn how to use Visual Studio which mad something take more than 5 minutes when you can make it in 2 and also make something take 30minutes done in 5 minutes. I have to forget also about coding everything and I start to learn how to use the Tools which Microsoft Upgrade one time per two or three years and you should learn it from the beginning! but it is okay to learn how to use it and program ASP.Net using C#.

I just finish my Project for one of the lectures that we should use Java as a programing language. I should use Java and Eclipse and Google Web ToolKit to produce a web Ajax enabled application. It is a great opportunity to use all of these for the first time! But I survived! yes I do it with a headache on my head at the end. Yet, I don’t do a perfect job because I don’t really like using something for the first time and it make you make some simple jobs in more than 30 minutes! when you can do it in 10-15 minutes by start coding! Also I hate the JAVA compiling thing. and the Java engine.It took a lot of my laptop resources to just run these!

But do you know! I think the problem is not in these programing languages, The problem within ourself. we don’t like to change and we like the way we are doing the job now. what about you? do you have a story to tell about changing in life?

These days I am planning for my next semester course modules. Because we should plan for the next semester courses from now. We can chose courses under Business school but we should take a permission from the course lecturer. Because of that I am planning to take courses from our available courses.

It’s too hard to think about that when you get overloaded with a lot of  assignments to do now. You have it from the beginning of the course but you keep delaying it until it is the time to submit it! I used to do that before and these days I feel like I have no time to do anything! sometimes I keep persuade myself that I can do it in time.

Added to that, I have to do a lot of reading to chose my dissertation topic. We have a meeting with some people from around the university and they will talk about their interest and we can chose one of the topics as our dissertation topic or we can give them an idea and they may accept it.

Sooner or later I will start my dissertation planning. I hope some of the books I bought about how to write a dissertation will help me to complete the phases without any problem. I consider Web 2.0 and e-Government as the main topics for now. But I may change these topics when I listen to the people from the university.

I talk about a lot of things today. starting with problem with postponed some responsibilities and ending with my dissertation. what about you? what do you feel at the end of the semester? do you think sometimes you feel that there is a hard pressure over you? or you are doing your assignments day by day?

I don’t choose my Dissertation topic yet and I have to wait until next month when our school will give us a list of topics to choose from.

The main problem I faced around is the problem of reading. yes, It’s reading. When I was doing my Bachelor I didn’t read a lot of books. Just read the slides for the any course and I can get around 80%. They don’t teach us how to write a good report or how we can use the library to search for information. They just want us to pass the exams and get our degree and that’s it.

You may hear a lot of talking about the Universities ranking and how our universities in the middle east weren’t on the first 500!!. When I read some articles that discuss why our universities weren’t on the first 500 I laugh. They are talking about the difference between the western countries and the eastern countries (That’s us). They say that in Arab countries we are focusing on teaching students rather than doing researches. And the ranking was not taking that into consideration! oh my god!! Do you want them to make standards for every university? or taking into consideration that our lecturers don’t really want to do any researches?

If the students like me. don’t get any course about how to write an Academic reports? how can that help us to improve our learning systems?

As I mention in my last blog, there are two methods: cash basis and accrual.

But which method you should choose?

The main difference if you search about that is the accrual method show true picture about your business situation.  You will really now if you are doing the business right. Because of that a lot of accountant suggests that you use the accrual method.

If you have an accountant you may ask him about that.

Because it is better to use the accrual method, my next post will use this method for register the transactions.

Picking the financial year

This is another thing you have to do before continue to deep information about accounting.

You business year must be a 12-month year. But it is not necessary to be like the calendar year that starting from (January and ending by December). You can choose a financial year starting from (June and ending in May). You should choose the best for your business. If you don’t really care it is better to use the calendar year as a financial year or what accountant calls fiscal year.

It look like I want to share the basic with you as soon as I read it.

Today I was reading the book from the begining to refresh my information. It is a really good book and easy for one like me.

So today we will going to talk a little about the two methods in accounting.

what is the difference between the two methods?

Cash-Basis Accounting:

In this method it based on cash flow. So you report the income or expenses when you get the money. so when you do a service for your customer. you don’t have to write about it in the accounting documents until he pay the money. even if you received a service or products for the supplier you have to write it when you pay the money to the supplier .

Accrual Accounting: 

In this method it based on when the transaction happens, even if you don’t get the money from your customer. when you do the service for your customer you have to write it in the accounting documents. if you received a service or products for the supplier you have to write it when you receive this service or products.

In the few next days I will talk about how to chose your method. you can search about that in the internet and you will find that the major companies rely on the accrual method. you will know why in the next post.

Just I was searching for something in my bag. and I see the book about Accounting that I always take with me.

It is a really nice book. It’s about how you can implement accounting methods in your job without any prior knowledge about accounting.

In the first pages it talk about the two way of counting in accounting. (when you do the service. or when you get the money). If you are an accounting student you should know more than me.

I learn 3 courses about accounting when I was doing my Bachelor degree. I have a little knowledge about accounting but I can know some accounting charts when I see it.

So, If you are a manager. do you think you should know about Accounting or not?

I asked my self this question before and my answer was YES. I should know a little about accounting because it give you some advantage when you apply for a job. Or even if you want to establish your own business.

If you know about the main reports of accounting. when you get a report you will know it without help from the accountant or any one else. you will know if there is a problem. or if you have a bad month or good.

I think I will learn a lot when  I share my experience with you. when I learn any thing I will post it here. Accounting students should correct me if I post something wrong. The rest can learn with me.
